EDITOR NOTES,

To establish a more vibrant community and to inform more people about our activities, we are trying to establish a newsletter that will theoretically inform everybody on what is happening in our community.

However, we will require your help with information on what is happening in terms of upgrades, repairs and general information. Pictures are always welcome and we will appreciate any help you are willing to give. The information can be emailed to news@ctwug.za.net.

If there is any suggestions on how to improve and to expand the news please feel free to mail us the suggestion.

MERCURY UPGRADE

Mercury Upgrade 6 February 2010

On 6 February 2010 a group of volunteers upgraded the Mercury site relieving pressure on one sector. During this upgrade the Triton link that suffered heavily under the strong winds in November 2009 was also reinforced.
Here follows a brief summary of what happened:
*Installed a new 3m pole with stay wires *Installed a new UT7, RB433 and 2 R5H's *Rotated the existing 5GHz sector more towards Rondebosch/Newlands area *Added another 5GHz sector to cover from where the existing one leaves off round to ... (not sure if it's a 90 or 120 degree) *Added a 24dBi 5GHz grid linking to Tiffy, this grid was installed on an existing R52 *The 31dBi Grid linking to Strand was moved to the new pole and is now running on a R5H. It also had a heavy duty bracket installed. *One of the two CAT5's from the power source in the building was converted from a POE to a dedicated 24V power line. One 433 is running on a normal POE CAT5, the other two are running off this dedicated line.

We would like to thank the following volunteers (In no particular order): TFyre, JaJa, Witwolf, Tiffie, MKV, Pilgrim

WOW

by Diabolix

The CTWUG-WoW server has really matured over the years. Like a fine wine or a good cheese; extremely good and you can enjoy it over and over again. It is currently in the hands of Diabolix, who keeps a close look over its well being with the aid of his trusty GM's namely Redeemer, Nixi, KinkyKiwi and Mammon, seeing to any pressing WoW issues and VaSH constantly enhancing the quality of the server.

The WoW-Team are constantly looking at ways to increase the fun factor of the game. Standard tournaments are held on a regular basis and one successful special tournament has been held. During the special tournament players receive items, normally difficult to get in the game and more. Nixi, our tournament co-ordinator, always brings out her creative side and places an entire theme to the tournament. Another special tournament is being held after Easter and all WUG-WoWers wishing to enter should please see the IRC channel, Wiki or forums posts for more detail. With our first special tournament the CTWUG-WoWers donated an amount of R590.00 to CTWUG and we are looking to break this record. We also have regular raids on the server and have successfully completed a number of 10man level 80 raids. This may sound insignificant to official WoW players, but is a great feat for the CTWUG-WoW server. Please Note: We are looking for more level 80 characters to allow us to successfully complete level 80 25man raids.

For those who do not know; there is a dedicated CTWUG-WoW channel on IRC called #ctwug-WoW/bnet where anyone wanting to know more about the server can join and just come and chat. On the channel we normally make announcements about raids and tournaments so it is useful for a WoWer to join the channel. We also make use of forum posts and a wiki, wiki.ctwug.za.net/index.php/World_of_Warcraft_Info, to make announcements and give general information. For those wishing to join the server one important aspect to know is that we are currently on version 3.3.0a of WoW. We also have a fan page on Facebook where we also post information, announcements and screenshots of our activities in the game. It's also a nice way of seeing the faces behind the characters. If you want to join the fan page just search for CTWUG-WoW and become a fan.

If you have any questions with regard to the awesomeness that is CTWUG-WoW, feel free to contact any GM on the IRC channel.

Kind Regards
