First get yourself an AP that can connect to us e.g. Linksys or Asus. The netgear does not support connection to different hardware as a bridge

My brother is at a block of flats central Plumstead (iburst base station) - they have a 5Ghz Backhaul to Goodwood --- what if I could place equipment there and connect to wug-gwd (EBEN?) - I have big 2.4 and 5.8G 20dB Panels and provided goodwood side has an AP pointing this way... could be pretty cool? Thoughts. Mike.

It is everyone's right to ask 'dumb' questions. Everyone doesn't know everything, so we must help each other where we can

There is no such thing as a dumb question…

Just a dumb answer…

hehe, not really, unless you want to VPN into the network

The chance of that modem being able to pick up our network and connect is VERY small, unless you can connect an external antenna to it and then it should also be working in the 5.8Ghz band, as most of our kit is 5.8 and not 2.4. In the end it's just easier to buy an rb and antenna and put that up

hey TAZZ69ER,
If you want to buy only once you should buy a Mikrotik Routerboard, CM9 Radio, and 5.8Ghz antenna and then the other stuff like connectors, pig tail, enclosure, brackets, pole etc. the whole kit will probably cost you about R1400. ONLY BUY THE KIT IF YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CONNECT! Don't spend too much money on 2.4Ghz antennas and routers I can promise you eventually you will buy a Mikrotik based kit (this has been proven more then once).

hope this helps.

whts the cm9 radio for ? shouldn't the antenna be sufficient?

TheFox

what would the antenna connect to?

The Radio aka CM9 is what handles the signal from the antennae and converts it into binary for the routerboard

Imagine it as a pci wifi card, or lan card.

I would recommend rather buying the RB411 instead of the RB133c, as the 411 is more powerfull for the same price
