Hi there.
Haven't posted in a while. Only recently interested in wireless again...(exam's finished an new year here :))

Currently i stay in a block of flats in bellville.
My mate next door has an adsl line.
I have an isp account.

We sorted ourselves out with internet this way. (He pays adsl. I pay bandwidth)

Now after a while we connected two other people to our line and so brought down the costs for all involved.

Last week we installed a antenna an ap at my brothers place a few k's away. He's now hooked up and running nicely on the ethernet and internet.

Now we are charging him a fee for connecting to us
Currently that fee is 350
Broken down.

150 pm for equipment cost recuperation.
200 pm for access to internet.

We have a gentlemens agreement that none of us use p2p or do heavy downloading until were on a uncapped account so that the service can remain cost effective for all of us.

We are busy building a pc just to host movies, games and whatnot also.

Anyways more to the point of the story. If u live near bill bezuidenhout and would like to connect to me give me a pm and we'll see if we can hook u up.

Also since i'm not that great a internet fundi. Can anyone recommend a good proxy/dhcp software package?

I tried winroute but ultimately didn't like it cause i couldn't get everyone on without having to do heavy configs on their sides.

are you looking for windows solution? if so, sorry can't help! get yourself a little linux box and run dhcp and squid of it.

The dude upstairs has got a mikrotik box. But as far as i understand if we use it to do the dhcp and the routing then were not going to b able to give ppl ethernet access but only pure internet. :(

Don't want that to happen cause would love to have a little network that i can use to practice my rts, fps games with ppl on.

can you explain your setup a bit, afaik MT(mikrotik) will do all of the above very easy. come join the irc room, MT pro's hang around there all the time.

Please dont use 602lan! I tried it for a while but it is super unstable, even though at first the features are great and it seems to work really well.

Well we kinda got fed up this weekend with the router's built in dhcp. So were now gonna stop that dhcp and rather go the linux route.
We've got a little p3 that were setting up with suse and were gonna do our proxy, dhcp and all that jazz through there.

Luckily it's just the people who don't mind downtime at the moment on the network. We're putting an eta of 1st of march before we give the other peeps access.
