Hi

I have most of my kit, the 6m mast will be delivered on monday, and then i will be set.

I need help setting it all up and getting it going.

Who can assist and when?
Couple of options would be election day or the following weekend.

Will provide hot dogs and cold drink.

Looking forward to hearing from yawl.

thanks TAZZ, much appreciated....anyone else?

Scoop, didn't have stock, so i emailed around, and Webb came back to me and said i should contact Cerilog, they had stock and referred me to a delivery company, triangle couriers. The delivery cost is R60.

After i placed the order etc, i got a mail from scoop that their stock has arrived.

Cerilog - 021 9826175
Triangle couriers - 021 5934854

Andrewt

Thank you for the info, it will come in very handy.

Unfortunately I wont be able to come and help you, which is unfortunate, as I am also planning on raising my antenna in the near future.

How high are you going up, and what mounting brackets are you using?

Please take lots of pics.

Thanx
Walti

Hi AndrewT,

just out of interest can you give me an idea of the general location of your site?

I work in Ndabeni.

Andrewt
20-04-2009, 09:10
Walti - it is going about 4m above a 2 story cottage....probably about 8/9m above the ground. I am using this bracket, http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=39_71&products_id=658 .

Moronnoodle - the site is in Rhone rd, near the school at the end of the road, http://wind.ctwug.za.net/wind/?page=nodes&node=559

Hi guys

Thanks for the response, i think it might be better to postpone this to after the the Rbosch high site goes live, so either sunday or the weekend after.

Some thought also needs to go into where the 2nd should be positioned for, so any thoughts, let me know.

I see there is a couple of non active users between myself and Rbosch, lispwarez, pinelands, 3kwartapple, tabriz.....are they waiting for LOS?

Awesome, thanks Toady.

Ok how is everyone else for sunday?

Andrewt, I would reccomend using 2 x tripod brackets for a 6m pole.
If not, then get at least some stay wires. I sommer use 2mm nylon. It is very strong, cheap and does not look too bad.
Best of luck with the install.

Thats the Green School (where the naughty pinelands kids went).

What time are you starting?

I assume you're connecting to the northern suburb sites, I don't think you have LOS to Mercury or the new Rondebosch site?

Andrewt
21-04-2009, 15:27
wetkit - the largest item going on the pole so far is a 31dbi grid, and that pole seems to be a thick one.....maybe when i add stuff on.

moronnoodle - lol, yes by the Green School, haven't set a time as yet, that will be up to the guys.

The postponement to sunday was to wait for Rbosch to go up, then we can see if i can get to it, but on wind it seems i will be able to.

sorry bud sunday out of the ? for me...wouldve luved to help u any time this weekend

WetKit

Andrewt, remember a 31dbi grid is huge and does catch a lot of wind.
Now you might have a thick pole, but that means it will also be heavy.
What you now doing is putting ALL that load and weight onto one bracket and 3 rawlbolts.

I agree with Wetkit, also going to mount two brackets, and do the stay wires.

Rather safe than sorry.

Sunday gonna be a bit tight for me too, but I'll see what I can do. I'll also be turning my grid around to connect to the new Rbosch site on Sunday.

Andrewt
23-04-2009, 09:57
eish ok, you win, i will try and get another bracket, not sure if i will get a chance though.

I checked the size of the holes on the current bracket, seemed like 10mm, but 10mm rawl bolts just dont fit, what size rawl bolts do you guys normally use?

WetKit
23-04-2009, 11:27
I have used 6mm bolts, but that is with the 2 brackets.
Normally 8mm should work fine. Just make sure you have a drill big enough to take the correct size drilbit. 14mm I think.

Andrewt, I have spare brackets if you need.

Andrewt
23-04-2009, 12:18
ok, cool, i will get some 8mm's

Is your bracket the same as this one? http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=39_71&products_id=658

WetKit
23-04-2009, 13:01
Yes, it is the same.

Andrewt
23-04-2009, 15:46
WetKit i sent you a pm, not sure if you got it.

How much do you want for it? when and where can i get it from you?

Andrewt
23-04-2009, 15:50

Andrewt
25-04-2009, 11:42
Although Rbosch didnt happen this morning, i am still keen to go ahead tomorrow, if the rain gives us a break.

Twsited, MKV, MoronNoodle, RockRabit, i checked on Wind, if i point my 2nd antenna your way, you should be able to see me. Will try and attach the pic.

Andrewt
26-04-2009, 07:56
Ok, the weather is miserable here, drizzly, and overcast.

According to weather it is going to stay this way, but tomorrow will be sunny with clear skies.

Is it possible to change it to tomorrow?
Who would be available for tomorrow?

mkv
26-04-2009, 09:16
Can maybe make a plan for tomorrow. Let us/me know the time for tomorrow and I'll try my best. Also send a message out on here if it clears today. I'm in Rondebosch and it just seems overcast here.

Thanks
M

Andrewt
26-04-2009, 09:27
Lets keep it for 9.

It is overcast here as well, but we get waves of drizzle coming through.

And then it seems the weather changed....eish

Andrewt

"Well guys, today looks like a good day for an erection." I thought that quote was hilarious.

MKV did most of the work. I just carried ladders and got sunburnt.

Put some pics up when you get a chance.

It really is quite awesome to see, +- 4 metres on top of a double story flat. The neighbours looked pissed.

Hi

Looks good, hope to upgrade my 2m to a 6m the weekend.

Lots of high buildings around you!

Can you post a pic from the other side, like to see what you did with the mountings agains the wall.

What rb do you have in there, also is that the aluminium encloser from Scoop you are using?

Andrewt
29-04-2009, 14:43
yup, doesn't help being in a dip.

I will try and take a pic this evening from the other side.

it is a 433, in an integrated enclosure, pretty much this kit,
http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=49_78&products_id=781

I should have done some more investigation, with this enclosure you can only fit 2 radio cards. If i knew before buying, i would have gone the other route, then i would have an omni on top as well.

mkv
29-04-2009, 15:44
Hey Andrew,

I have a mate in the next road over from you, Rheyzicht..., who's really keen to join the wug. Perhaps if the integrated panel isn't gonna connect anyone in it's current orientation you can think about spinning it round to feed the that side of pinelands.

I stopped by his place quickly after I left your place on Monday. He was super excited. Maybe I'll put him in touch, he can also help you out with work that needs to be done. He's also tech and handyman minded.

29-04-2009, 15:46
Oh, I just had a thought, looking at the internal picture of that enclosure you've got. There must be a relatively simple way to mod it to move the RB over a bit to allow the third card to be fitted..

WetKit
30-04-2009, 08:42
Andrewt,
I was at Scoop the other day and they are actually mounting the RB's now at 45degrees.
Just get some more of the sticky standoffs and you can re-mount.
Please remove the RB before you drill more holes for antenna connections.

MKV, no reason we cant turn it that way.....not sure about the other guys in rbosch though. Has he got kit? when do you want to do this?

I have already fixed everything inside, not keen to undo everything. It is in a ready state to connect to another device.

I think i have a pic of what i did, i will try and post it.

Thanx for the pix.

Darm that is high!!

Just a few questions, what are you planing to do with the serial cable, and why do you have two network cables in the 433?

Andrewt
30-04-2009, 13:51
Cool.

yup, wouldn't mind having a pic from the top though.

Having worked with cisco etc before, i like to have a back door or a way to connect and reboot etc. The fixed one goes inside with poe and data, the 2nd one i have left in such a way that i could connect another device without too much issue.....so if i add another 433, i would just need to use the quick connect port, no need to drill another hole etc....probably a 5 min thing to connect to another devices without having to take kit off the pole.

Both cables are also UV/weather protected.
