View Full Version : [poll] Research Projects
This has been a long time coming, but after our successful link between Mars and Pluto we thought we should start doing some research/experiments.
Here are a few things that I think we should spend some time one:
1. Bouncing signal over an hill
2. Organize regular war drives
3. Play with dual nstream (is it worth it or not)
4. Tx on one antenna, Rx on a second one
5. What are the impacts of an to good signal and an bad signal
6. Make a link over 20km with the best throughput with the least amount of power and the impact of different antennas.
Pls add to this list and let’s start discussing if some of this stuff is achievable or not.
Ek het so bietjie research wat ek self gaan aanpak.
By my werk maak ons GPRS Modems, ek gaan dit try om 'n clean install van ROS oor die Cellphones te doen. Dit sluit in die reset van die modem en serial connection.
I'm all for a lekker war-drive!!
We have the kit for the signal bounce, so when do we start?
Okay seriously now, I was the one that wanted to do the 100 km link originally - but that has fallen by the wayside because of damage to the mesh dish. But I still have the 2 m solid alum. dish that can be used with a 31 db 5.8 feed. ( must just find a way to mount it ) With the dish I would like to park on top of Tygerberg Hill and scan right across the peninsula and see what signals we pick up.
what kind of feed do you have 31 db 5.8 feed,
Can you post a picture?
Its basically the feed off this http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/popup_add_image.php?pID=277 antenna
placed at the focal point of the 2m dish.

How about some research into providing QOS across the wug network?
That is currently being done, TOS rules have been put in place on all member's routerboards on botlary hill, and on all CTWUG highsites. It's not perfected yet, but that would be the nature of "research".
What the rules try to do is give latency dependant services, like games and VOIP priority over p2p networks, ftp and HTTP trafic.
Just an update, Mufasa Is working on some new TOS rules for ROS 3. Should any of you want to host latency dependant services, please notify him, rellik, nos, cyclone or nOs, so that It could be incorporated. Any unknown port WILL be locked down and severely limmited during gaming hours.
