Anyone know if there is a signal strength meter available for 2.4gHz?
I need to correctly align a dish over a large distance.

Everyone that I know of (including the pros) uses netstumbler
Can netstumbler be used with an AP?
Netstumbler cannot be used with an AP as far as I know, but Kismet can be used on any of the linux based routers.
IMHO, Kismet is a million times more effective than Netstumbler.

Agreed. But for novices it is a lot more difficult to setup. The very easy setup I use is an SL2511CD+Ext2 PCMCIA card with a variety of adapters to link to various antenna's. I then use this with netstumbler on my laptop to quickly align any antenna.
For 5.8 GHz, since I am using Mikrotik for that I use the built in alignment tools.
