Please indicate if you would want to attend a 1 day Mikrotik training session for WUG members only. It will focus on technology the WUG uses and will cost only R300 for the day. If you are interested please indicate. It would be on a Saturday. Date still to be confirmed.
yeah this could be fun/interesting.
Will this be a certified Mikrotik training session?

Yes - all my sessions are certified - I can issue a certificate
savagedavid don't you think we can make the price a little better for the wuggers. I now this guys, they will rather spend the R300 on a new radio to get that killer connection going and struggle, that vorking out R300.

To put it into perspective - my normal training costs R1200 per day. This is coming in at 25% of normal cost - and you get a certificate. R300 is definitely the final price!

The date I am looking at is the 6th October (2 weeks from now). Note that there are only 9 seats available - so book quickly!
Savagedavid do we have to be connected members of the WUG or can I come to the class as well?
I am waiting for the Wynberg HS :)

You dont have to be connected - you just need to be an active member - i.e. on irc or the forum etc. I dont want ppl who we have never seen a post from or never heard from registering just to get "cheap training" - that would be defeating the purpose.
I'm interested. A couple of questions: where will it take place; starting time; duration & topics covered?

peek-a-boo i c u!
Any chance you'd be able to schedule another one in the near future? Won't be able to make it on the 6th.
kallieV, savage said something about this one being the last one for the year.
I speak under correction.

Unfortunately I wil have to cancel the training. I have had a number of wug members cancel, and I am also taking it in light of Saturdays WUG meeting. I will try to find something sooner than next year to fit in a training session.
David will it be possible to confirm a date like a month before hand, then we can make sure there's not a conflict of dates and it will give all more time to prepare.
I agree. I am still very interested in the training. Please let us know if you have a new date :)
yes. very interested in the training.

Update: I was desperately trying to fit in another session this year, but all my weekends are booked up until early January. I am working on the official Mikrotik training sessions for next year - I will see where I can fit in a WUG session. The best would be to give me feedback on what you want to learn about so that I can tailor the course.
Well, I'm a total wireless n00b!
Think of me as a little sponge... Or a big sponge if you will :P
I'd like to know how to setup / use my RB, as well as how wireless works and how wireless (WUG related) can be improved.
I wanna help grow the community!
Wel, a start would be to log into your RB, make a backup of the settings, and start playing around. If you seriously mess up, you get to learn about Netinstall too
Thats all fair and well, but I don't even know what to change or what it means to change anything :/
I'll need some technical information on how it works and what does what.
Can anybody recommend a book?
http://www.mikrotik.com/testdocs/ros/2.9/refman2.9.pdf
that will be the best place to start learning mikrotik, get an extra RB or one with more that 1 interface and start playing. Reset you RB's configurations and see if you can set it up by yourself.

Im with Dweller on this one, Im a Noob, if you can start off with the basics, what happens when a new guy join the wug, how is Ip's assigned and then move to the RB whats done on the high site aswell as your local RB. Hope you can help.
We had a quick discussion about training and so forth, and we want to have like a training session for wug members somewhere beginning of next year. It wont be associated with the training of david savage in any way. It will just be some of the wug members that knows how the basics work that will pass on the knowledge. We have been talking, and we will focus on ptp routing, mangle and queue rules, and vpn links. If there is any other things that you would like to know or would like us to explain, feel free to post it here and we'll see if we have the knowledge and expertise to put it into the training session. This would be a good start for beginners that doesn't know ros that well. We'll keep you updated about the date.
Should be very interesting - yes plz do keep us updated
Eben ja kom leer maar by die wug ouens. Ons het jou mos by pluto gewys hoe om highsite op te sit.
Ja, Eben is altyd welkom by ons meetings. Dalk kan hy vir ons ook iets leer :)

Hehe, werk hard kuier harder.
I know this thread is more than 6 months old, but did this ever happen?
I really would like to learn, but currently it feels like baning my head against a btick wall, not nice.
Will savagedavid be helpfull and offer the same training for this year?
