View Full Version : ICASA on the hunt !!!!
It seems that ICASA(read as TELKOM'S BITCH) is on the hunt in the western cape. They are shutting down some of the wisp's highsites. Telkom has complained to ICASA. So be on the look out, watch the myadsl or this forum for updates.
Nice to see some action from ICASA but why is for telkom and not the ppl that complain about telkom ~:(

It seems they have targeted 2 of the larger WISP's and "asked" them to voluntarily take down their highsites - neatly bypassing any legal action that might result.
I would be interested to see how they are going to approach something like Uninet supplying the whole of the George region on behalf of the municipality...
Probably pretend it does not exist and continue to target the easy providers.
So hellscum get their way again. Once again it's one rule for the all controlling telecoms monopoly - another rule for the rest of us.
Well for me it is good news long last thy target the illegal wisp. I know if icasa go remove ?unnamed? wisp hardware it will make my day.
Any one have the source of the information except MYADSL!!?

I have some more info straight from the source.
On Monday Icasa followed up an official complaint from Telkom. The Kanonkop highsite in Tygerberg was experiencing massive interference in the ism band and Telkom was having transmission problems. On investigation they found one of the WISP's was using a 5 watt (5000 mW!) amplifier. They then targeted all WISP's on Kanonkop and the immediately adjacent hill to voluntarily remove their equipment or face complete shutdown. Naturally the WISP's complied.
This on the surface seems to be blatant stupidity on the part of the WISP using the amplifier. I can't reveal the names of any of the parties involved. I am sure it will be revealed later.
That is the latest news I have.

good for icasa, shut them down if the use amps. 5W is overkill and we can all guess who was using that !!!

I agree, except that a number of WISP's now have to shut down because of the idiocy of one. You would probably not guess who it was btw - I was surprised to hear..
Thanks dude interesting stuff? Pleas keep us updated!!
Funny thing is, I use to have ms11 in my ?scan? list, now its not there any more heehaw.

Megaserve was one of the affected WISP's (not the guilty one though). WINX was also affected (also not guilty)
does anybody know who's the guilty one
the tower has been cleaned out, only telkrap on the kanonkop tower.
Dam so no megaserve any more thare awwww....... Thy got that coming
ms-10,11,12,13,14 is still running fine and i'm quite close to kanonkop
Wireless Online, which hires their infastructure from Uniterm all run 5GH backbones... connecting paarl / somerset west / unicity.. bastards
Wireless Online does NOT hire anything from anybody. They control all their own sites and infrastructure. Many companys including Uniterm rent space from them.
OH well, they still suck. I banned the WO ip range from most of my corporate sites I host & develop. Since the bitches only run on 1 IP and dont care about clients abusing it.

Jeeva while we respect your viewpoint we would prefer you did not flame any providers without knowing exactly what you are talking about. While I am sure Wireless Online have their faults I also know users who are happy with their service. If you have a problem with WO you are welcome to take it offline. WifiED works for WO and I am sure he would be happy answering any questions you have about them.
Jeeva: is there any wisps that don't suck in some way or another?
I use Wireless Online as my ISP. And yes, I also get bad days with them, but 90% of the time I'm happy. I've been with a few ISP's before and this is the one I use the longest so far.
Like Eben also said, all Wisps suck in some way or another. But remember, it is not only Wisps that suck but Isps as well. Is you show me a Wisp or Isp that have 100% connection time 24/7 at maximum download speed I will take it, everyone will take it.
So, if you don't have something good to say about any Wisp or Isp, then don't say it.
