As per reqeust by AJ im creating this thread, please post where you'd like the next highsite to be put up. If there is enough people in a area things just might happen.

Admin would you please make this a sticky! :D
Thanks.

Haha ! Thanks Cyclone

Southern Suburbs !!!
Lansdowne\Ottery\Wetton area please.

Also, could the guru's give us some more info regarding the ctwug high sites

Like info regarding :

What equipment is used at a ctwug high site?
How much does the equipment cost?
Start-up costs for ctwug high sites? equipment?labour? etc ...
Maintenance costs per month? What does this (maintenance) involve?Any other info us newbies take for granted ...

Maybe members in areas not covered by current ctwug high sites (and who would like ctwug high site access) could maybe contribute $$$ so that a high site could be setup in their area... instead of waiting ...

I think it's time we all start being a little more proactive about growing CTWUG.

Maybe even a once-off "ctwug membership fee" of R100-00 or maybe start a "high site kitty" for a specific area. Then members in that area could contribute $$$ until there is enough $$$ for a high site in that area... just some ideas guys !

Please share your opinions ...

Great idea AJ, and even old pc's wil help towards contrabution. Im talking about p3 or maybe even celerons, anything that runs 700+ mhz should help. These babies make great AP's.

If anyone can get access to tygerberg hills that would help alot, maybe a site close to the current sentec mast ??? you can see that mast almost everywhere from capetown.

Also if all of us can go to www.wug.za.net and post there locations there, i did it and looks like the site will work great if everybody do it.

i am in the kirstenhoff (tokai/retreat) area. i don't have access to a highsite, so I cannot put a ap up.

i will make a contribution towards the equipment if someone else does have a place to mount antenna (and I have LOS).

great idea this...... who will administrate the money for onetime entry?? I am willing to help as much as possible with material and labor....R100 is not a lot but it will go a long way in speeding up the proses... for sake of government we call it a club...

Also willing to host a high site in this area....

A R100 once off fee to get connected sounds much better, we can use the money for hardware to expand the wug.

I am personally quite anti the idea of charging for connectivity no matter how you phrase it. It just smacks of profiteering even if we know no money is being made. Also if we use the money for highsites then who does the equipment belong to? CTWUG is jst an idea - it is not an actual entity that is registered like a club.

Looking at it from that point, it makes a lot of sense.

I'm in the Muizenberg area - and it seems the coverage does not stretch this far? I would gladly assist with labour and some possible funds to get a site up in this area for coverage - please keep me in the loop of any happenings or where I might be able to assist?

This is where I'm currently situated - I'm "veToniX's Place" by the yellow place mark...

Hi coupez,

Even though the Red part might not reach you on the GE map, does not mean you will not be able to see it or connect to it.
Join us on in IRC. Then you can ask for help with a scan or perhaps you can join the LOEM guys.

Cheers
