We are setting up a Stellenbosch Wireless LAN.
Currently we cover the area around mcdonalds
It's not a WUG, we charge R45 pm.

I'm a student in Stellenbosch itching to get connected. Do we have coverage yet? I'm in the Het Begijnhof 1 block.

Further, I'm considering the WRT54GL and then the 5+ Ghz Antenna. Do the gurus agree for someone studying Electrical and electronical engineering? Would like to keep it clean and neat.

Wel first of all the WRT54GL does not support 5.8 frequency, and currently we do not have anything pointing to stellenbosch. We are well looking into it, but it looks like its not going to happen very soon.

Sloan, if you want to go the 5.8GHz route, consider the RB133 series. You can find more info on www.routherboard.com

The cm9 and the R52 is as good as it gets, anyone will do. Remember a piece of LMR400 wire too, about 0.6m will do.

Who is in charge of the Bottelary HS?

What hardware is needed to connect the Maties to the wug?

If we know what we need and what it will cost let us get going. I know for a fact that the Maties would love to connect. I studied there 2 years back and if I knew wireless was not a myth (and Bottelary HS was there) I would have connected.

Let us get these guys online!

The problem isn't the equipment, we are sitting with a full bad ass kit. It is a RB333, Grid, 2 x Sector etc, etc. The problem is finding a site to put it up.

If anyone now of someone that can help, pls contact us.

Yea like nOs said its not easy to get towerspace up there. We have the equipment to do but not the space.

Pilgrim, we are working hard on getting a Stellenbosch Wireless User Group up and going. I've put up a temporary website just to get things started.

We are working on getting some tower space on stellenbosch berg which will more than likely give you coverage. Where exactly are you located?

Our aim is to eventually connect with CTWUG once they're able to point something towards us.

I am in Wynberg so not even close to Stellenbosch. But I have a few friends close to the engineering buildings that will want to connect.

I am just looking forward to the wug expanding.
