Highsite updates

Just to let you guys know whats going on:

Botlerey Hill: We are finally near getting the site up. Currently the mast is bing built (36M worth of it!) The site will be able to join Southern Suburbs, Durbanville, Stellenbosch and Gordons Bay into the mesh.

Wynberg: We are looking at a potential site near the military base with excellent coverage of most of the SS area.

Milnerton: The Milnerton site is now fully operational

WOW, cant wait !!!!! will it be on the 5.8 band or 2.4....want to get my stuff ready !!!

It will all be on 5.8. There is already too much 2.4 on Botlerey to add into the mess.

I have a clear line of sight to Botlerey Hill, but it being 5.8 does that mean my 2.4 antenna and linksys router is useless? What do I need?

Savage, who actualy pay for these hi sights to be erected?

Would the top of a 6 story building do for the Wynberg area? I can speak to our building council and see what can be done...

The building is close to the Maynard Open Air Theater and has awesome all round view.

Unfortunately yes, 2.4 equipment will only work on 2.4 and vice versa unless u have a dual band radio.

We are a community funded group (what that mean is that if we want something we have to pay for it ourselfs)

Make it go a loooonnnngggggg way, i am about 17km away in the direction of tygervalley but have perfect LOS, now i only need some 5.8ghz equipment. Anyone, what will be my cheapest option to go about 17km LOS. !amazed

Where will I be able to get some 5.8 equipment. As I am not haveing any luck connecting to the ctwug with the 2.4 stuff I bought. So far I have only wasted money on
equipment that is sitting on my roof doing nothing. In all fairness to the guys like Mufasa who was very helpfull with setting me up, and got me up and running for a while. I thank you!

But something changed and I lost the signal to the Ocean ap. I can still see the West ap, which I think is Eben's ap. On which I have send him a message on asking if I can connect to the ctwug
through his ap on which I have never gotten a responce to.

I know all you guys do this out of love for technology, and I appriciate that but please how about some help here?

The west1 AP belongs to me as does ocean. I had to switch over to 2.4Ghz G-only because of massive speed and interference issues. If your equipment is b-only then sorry for you - you are pretty much stuffed.

The only site currently running 5.8 is Milnerton, but having said that ocean and west1 are going to follow very shortly as soon as I track down the missing 5.8 sector. They will also still run the 2.4 equipment of course.

Thank you for the reply. My equipment can do b and g, I dont see any problems there. So please can you add me to your west1 ap which I can still see, so I can get on again. I will pm you my mac add. Anything els you need?

"I still dont have any luck finding the ocean ssid, who must I contact to connect throuch west1, as it seems to be my best bet at the moment." on Wed Oct 11 2006, 10:44PM.

But I'm in contact with Savagedavid who have hooked me up to the West-AP, so all is good.

i did a scan the other day from prestige college and was able to pick up ur ap quite strong, something like -75, from the site in progress over there
