hi guys

Everone that plays around with their wireless devices want the same thing. And thats to browse the internet for as cheap as possible with as much bandwidth as possible and with no cap. Hell, a friend that stayed in kennilworth got that for free. If we can get all this for free, then we will get board sick, because what we have been trying to achieve has been achieved. Me, I also want to be able to browse the internet for free. So went out to buy me a netgear wireless pci adapter in the hope that i could connect to someones network and browse. I live in Mark Heights, Goodwood, and just by using my adapter with build in aerial, I found a couple of networks, but was unable to connect. Maybe you guys can identify them. One was 'G02B' and 'tttttttteeeeeeeemmmmmmmmpppppppp' and 'mark heights' and there was another one or two that i picked up using netstumbler. So because i live on the 16th floor, i was thinking of getting me an aerial or making myself a cantenna and then poke my nose around the place. What do you guys think. Interesting in hearing what your comments are.

If you got an aerial you'd be surprised what you could pick up.

Don't be too sure to find an open Internet connection that you can just hop onto, but maybe you could team up with another guy in range.

On the 16th floor you're bound to find someone. Which side of Mark Heights are yuo, ie, which direction of the city have you got Line of sight to?

Well, both sides, meaning that we have windows on both sides of the building. But I would mostly prefer to point my aerial towards the table mountain side because that is where my pc is at and there is a walkway on the other side.

I'm currently sharing an internet connection with 3 other guys in Sunningdale (Table View Area)

I read a post the MyBroadband forums of a guy getting connection from some crazy distance to mufasa (Table View)

Mufasa: Any comment on wether this ever got off the ground? It was ages ago (2003 odd)

We have all kinds of crazy connections. Curently the furthest is 18KM. Just to note though that we are not about providing internet access. We are about building a community wireless network.

Yes guys. I can very well see that internet connecting is not the main focus of attraction with ctwug. It kinda seems more like a p2p type of thing. I mean, whats the point of so many pc's connecting. In my opinion, 1-internet, 2-p2p, maybe 3-gaming. Just for interest sake eben, what's the ssid 2 blocks from mark heights. you never know. I may just be picking it up without an external aerial.

I still only have the one issue:

When connected to WUG, (which would be permanently) how does my Wireless Bridge/AP remain connected to the WUG and still allow other bridges to connect to my wireless AP for their internet connection. Would I need to purchase another Wireless, one for each task?

Lastly, are there simply PC's connected for file serving purposes - I'm bascally performing that facility for the other connection on my little network... Is that the P2P situation now?
