On Google, right next to the coordinates. You will see it will drop to 0 meters at see level. This should be like that. The problem is that it does not cater for trees or building. I doubt that there is any program for that because trees keep growing and buildings, well you know how quick that is built these days.

Hey all,

I'm moving house shortly and while I'm weighing my options I'd like to check if the places have LOS to a CTWUG AP. I know I could just load all the locations into WiND but that would have me entering a number of ultimately useless nodes. Is there a way to do this in Google Earth at all? Or has anyone got any other apps that could be useful?

The posts on this topic are from 2006, so surely by now there's a way?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Download the CTWUG KML file http://wind.ctwug.za.net/wind/ge.php and use it in google earth to check for los.

Hi Cyclone,

Thanks for the reply. I've already got the KML file. What I need to know is how to actually to a check for LOS in G.E. I can see where the coverage area's are but I want to do the same as when you click 'calculate line of sight with other nodes' in the WiND interface, ie: bring up the cross-sectional graph with the freznel zone drawn in.

Sorry if I wasn't clear about that in my original post.

If you want a standalone application to calculate links you can try RadioWorks. It also works with SRTM data, and its freeware.
