Hey CTWUGgers

I am setting up a highsite on Botlerey and I need some help. I have all the equipment necessary, but I need a bakkie to get the stuff up there, and I need some helping hands. I will gladly cover petrol costs etc.

So if you have some time and/or a bakkie to lend, let me know. The highsite will really help connecting Durbanville and even Stellenbosch to the rest of the WUG.

Basically there is nothing up there - just a piece of ground. So we need to dig a hole, fill it up with concrete, and then mount a mast onto it.

It is not so much big stuff as it is that the terrain is quite rough. A bit heavy for a car but nothing that a vehicle with slightly better ground clearance cant handle.

wiki I know you are always in for an install - thanks for the offers of help guys. We are hopefully looking at this weekend to throw the concrete and next weekend to fit the mast. I will still confirm.

I live on Langverwagcht rd (complex next to new spar centre) and my friend in Brandwag/Soneike. We have Linksys access points, but will have to still construct the antennas. We would like to join the network. Any info on this will be helpful. Thanks

mydesktop, hopefully we'll be able to see the highsite. i have plotted it on google earth and was a bit worried about Zevenwacht hill blocking the signal, but it looks like it will work. I am in Mikro Park, at the lower end of Langverwacht.

Ah - a thread that got me to register on the forums :)

Did this highsite happen in the end? I'm in Brackenfell and might be able to hook up this way...

Did a bit of sight-seeing <grin>, and depending on the location on Bottelary, I'll probably not have LOS from here anyway - the slope of this hill I'm against will probably be in the way.

Any other nodes closeby that I can try and spot? (I guess I need to borrow an antenna and see what I can pick up. Have a pretty good view from here...)

In the future, don't hesitate to ask for help, especially when we are talking about rope access gear as I'm a active rock climber.
Anybody else out there that climbs?

it's normally not that hard to get up the roof, it gets challenging to rig a safety rope or to on a asbes roof.
