Ok

Heres what i got a 7 km link with 2 wrt54g running alchemy with 2x 22 db grid antennas, and getting -78db.

Question: Why then am i only getting 1Mbits throuput, is this a limitation on linksys routers? Should i not be getting something like 11Mbits

Thanks

First question would be obvious, do you have LOS?

Perhaps you can try adjusting the direction they point. It might be that they are not pointing directly at each other.

There might be other things causing interference that is between the link (even another wifi network using the same channel can cause interference).

You need to tweak ack timing for links that long on wrts, and stop using alchemy its utter poo ;)

they have upgraded to dd-wrt v2.3 beta1(nice gui access to ack) so thats a start, the 7km link is over water.

here's what i've got: modded dstv dish one side of a 8km link and a 20dbi panel on the other side on a 4meter mast running turbo mode and getting 40mbps up and 35mbps down udp. so interference is def. an issue with ur connection. it tooked me several hours and even weeks on the roof to get the connection the way i wanted, with alot of playing around with channels, setting ect ack times makes a dif

Can you mount your antennae lower so they can't see the water? Reflections will play havoc. Had exactly this problem with my TV - no signal at high tide.
