Cantenna

Anyone ever worked with or using a cantenna? (http://www.cantenna.com/) I want to share my wi-fi connection with a friend in my complex. The unit is 200m away and my online investigations seem to keep pointing towards a cantenna.

any ideas or confirmation regarding potential distances etc would be greatly appreciated.

From my roof it looks like I do. however, I need to check as there might be some small things in the way like tree branches or roof peaks. i will know for sure later this week when I climb up and check.

It seems LOS would be critical with such a cantenna?

with any wifi link LOS is critical!!

For 200m you are probably better off with a biquad or bicircle as they dont have to be aimed terribly accurately like the cantenna needs. You can also get away with minor obstructions eg. light foliage but you wont be able to go straight through an oak tree for example. However having said that the cantenna would also work fine.

This sounds really interesting. thanks for the info, will do some reading. stumbled upon this wifi booster (http://www.overam.com/specs/wi-fi_signal_range_booster/wi-fi_signal_range_booster_custom-laptops.htm ) and was wondering if anyone knows how good it might be.

For now, excited to ensure how good the LOS is and check out the bicircle and biquad options.
