HI there. Anybody got a good setup for a directional antenna plus ap?
Looking to spend max about 1500 on it but want it to be able to be useful to connect to other ppl also.
Currently there's no point in me getting an omni seeing as the place where i can put up the antenna would only face one direction, so a directional or sector seems to be the best bet.
So if you got any
Good antenna. (linky pls or model name)
Good ap. (model or link)
Would prefer it to be poe able just cause it will reduce cable clutter a lot. but if not i don't mind that much.
AP: Linksys WRT54G
Antenna: 13Db flat + cable
I would agree with bismay on the AP (wrt54g not version5) but if you are looking for good cheap antenna then one of the yagi antenna is your best bet. The yagi is about R300 for the 12dbi.

How about Senao SL2511SR+ R500, 20 dBi Yagi Antenna R580 or 12dBi Yagi Antenna R290? You can get this a www.miro.co.za in Montague gardens.
hmmmmm....I live next door to montague gardens :)
PS. The 20dBi Yagi sounds like a good buy....(says me in complete ignorance)

having just had a read through the user manual of the sl2511sr+, you can't set it to client mode, it can't do wds so how do you connect 2 ap's together. still a nice price. Just a standard AP and there is nothing else you can do with it.

The yagi seems a bit too directional to me for connecting multiple ppl to it. I want at least a good spread in front of it so that i can cover a few ppl that i know are in my los.
What would be better a sector, grid or parabolic?

the flat panel or sector would be your best bet, the dish/grid are very directional. That price can't be right from uniterm!! they are normally around R750 in vat
